Deputies: 14-year-old seriously hurt after electric scooter crash in Ontario County

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — A 14-year-old boy has serious injuries after Ontario County Sheriff’s deputies say he was thrown off his scooter.

Deputies say on Tuesday, the 14-year-old was riding an electric scooter on Johnson Road when the passenger side mirror of a sedan, whose driver was trying to avoid hitting him, hit the boy. Deputies say the boy was trying to cross traffic lanes to try to turn into a driveway, and failed to yield the right of way to the sedan.

That’s when deputies say the boy was thrown from the scooter and suffered head trauma. Although his injuries are serious, he is expected to survive.

The boy was brought to Strong Memorial Hospital. The driver wasn’t injured.

According to deputies, no traffic tickets were issued as they say the boy was at fault.
