‘Casting for Character’ fishing tournament on Lake Ontario raises money for Scouting America

ROCHESTER, N.Y. Anglers from across New York faced off Tuesday in a fishing tournament benefiting the local Scouting America chapter.

The “Casting for Character” fishing tournament brought four-person teams together to compete over four hours to reel in the biggest trout or salmon from Lake Ontario. Each team was paired with an experienced charter captain, so even first-timers could enjoy a day on the water.

“It’s always a great opportunity to be out here for the scouts and have a good time,” said participant Jeff Jones. “My son’s able to join me this afternoon, so we’re going back out for an afternoon trip and my eight year old will be out here too so it’s going to be a lot of fun. It’s a blast.”

The proceeds will fund programs that serve nearly 6,000 boys and girls across 11 counties.
