TONAWANDA, N.Y. — A 34-year-old man is charged with DWI after a multi-car crash that damaged a marked State Police Charger.
According to State Police, a trooper was responding to a one-car property damage crash on I-190 in the Town of Tonawanda Wednesday evening.
Investigators say the responding trooper was outside the marked State Police Charger with emergency lights on while a Dodge Ram, driven by James Phalen, hit a Ford Focus. They say the Focus then hit the State Police Charger, causing it to hit a Dodge Charger.
The Dodge Charger was involved in the crash troopers initially responded to, according to State Police.
Phalen wasn’t hurt, State Police say. Additional responding troopers arrested him for DWI, and issued him other vehicle and traffic tickets.
