ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Nearly 4,000 homes across Monroe, Wayne, and Ontario counties are without power on Thursday morning ahead of a third straight day of temperatures in the 90s.
There were also hundreds of power outages yesterday after thunderstorms, leaving some people without air conditioning amid the heat. RG&E says its crews are on standby throughout this week to respond to power outages that could leave people vulnerable.
News10NBC’s Yellow Alert for excessive heat and humidity continues through Friday. At times, the heat index has exceeded 100 degrees. You can see our latest forecast here.
For Thursday, RG&E’s outage tracker lists over 3,000 outages in Monroe County and over 500 in Wayne County as of 5 a.m. You can see the latest numbers here. There are also some outages for National Grid customers in Orleans County and NSYEG customers in Ontario County.
Earlier in the morning, over 5,000 homes lost power in the region. The outages come after some localized overnight storms, with viewers sending us photos of the damage. One photo shows a tree that fell on a wire on University Avenue in Rochester. Another photo shows a large tree cracked in half on Garson Avenue. News10NBC has reached out to RG&E to learn more about what’s causing the outages and when they will be repaired. Check back for updates.
