(Washington, DC) — A major pro-Israel lobbying group says it’s no longer endorsing candidates. The American Israel Public Affairs Committee, known as AIPAC, said in a letter this week that it “achieved important victories” in this election cycle, but that it “must build a more strategic” operation, and that “endorsements, direct PAC contributions and earmarking will no longer be part of our approach.” AIPAC says it will instead encourage its members to give directly to pro-Israel candidates. The move comes after a poll earlier this year showed 60-percent of adults had an unfavorable view of Israel because of the war in Gaza.
