PENFIELD, N.Y. — The Mary Fellows Penfield Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution honored eight Revolutionary War patriots buried in Oakwood Cemetery with a special grave-marking ceremony.
Members of the chapter restored tombstones and placed flags to recognize the sacrifice of local patriots as part of America’s 250th anniversary. The ceremony aimed to preserve history and remind the community of the freedoms secured by these veterans.

“They fought for the freedom to speak your peace, the freedom to write your peace, the freedom to worship, and the freedom to bear arms,” said Terry Bruno, who’s with the chapter.
“Without those freedoms, we’d be living in a tyranny,” Bruno said. “And so this is to honor those freedoms, but it also brings it right now forward,” Bruno said.
The chapter does community service every year, and this event honored those who fought while serving the community.
