First Alert Weather: Tracking a beautiful weekend before heat and humidity concerns next week

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Expect great conditions for the vast majority of the last weekend in June. The only possible hiccup is a brief, small shower along lake breeze boundaries this afternoon, likely south of Rochester, but they won’t last long even if they do form. The rest of the day will be mostly sunny, with highs in the mid 70s, tolerable humidity, and light winds.

Tomorrow will be nice again. A little warmer with highs near 80, sunnier than today, and still not too humid.

Monday will be warmer, well into the 80s, and humidity will tick up a bit, but not too uncomfortable yet. That changes Tuesday. An upper level ridge combined with southwest flow will shove in excessive heat and humidity to our area, with multiple days in the 90s and dew points in the 70s. We may even reach near record humidity at times. That means heat stress and illness could become a real concern, so stay tuned as we continue to track this. Don’t be surprised at any Yellow Alerts for the middle portion of next week. Thunderstorms at times may provide relief from the heat and humidity, but they are themselves also a threat. Timing for thunder may include 3rd and 4th of July celebrations, but we are still a ways away, so we’re ironing out the details and will have more updates in the coming days, so don’t change any plans YET. Stay tuned.
