Fire burns through roof of building on Burrows Street off Lyell Avenue

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A fire burned through the roof of an industrial building on Burrows Street off Lyell Avenue on Saturday morning.

The Rochester Fire Department got the fire under control after calling in a second alarm. RFD Lt. Howard Villegas described the building as having a “lightweight” frame. The first crews arrived just after 8:30 a.m. and began spraying the outside of the building from multiple places.

“Once we establish that we’re not going to go inside, because the risk is too great, then we try to stop the spread by surrounding it on three sides, as many sides as we can, to stop the spread from neighboring buildings,” Villegas said.

There were no reports of any injuries. Villegas said there was a concern about three tanks on fire in the back, but crews put out those flames within minutes of their arrival.

News10NBC saw crews close down Burrow Street while battling the flames. Some parts of the building’s frame fell off. There’s no word on what caused the fire. Check back for any updates.
