Brighton’s Ernie Clement handed key to Monroe County: Mayor declares ‘Ernie Clement Day’

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — After delivering an outstanding performance in the 2025 MLB postseason, Brighton native and infielder for the Toronto Blue Jays Ernie Clement was handed a Key to Monroe County.

On Saturday, people got the chance to get a free autograph from Clement at the Red Wings team store. During his visit, County Executive Adam Bello presented Clement with a key to the County.

“Ernie we are incredibly proud of you, and you represented your hometown so well on the world stage,” said Bello.

After being handed the key, Mayor Malik Evans announced the proclamation of Nov. 29 as “Ernie Clement Day.”

“We gotta represent and honor our hometown heroes,” said Evans.

Clement set a Major League Baseball record with 30 hits in a single postseason. He also recorded 10 multi-hit games, another baseball record.

Throughout Clement’s postseason run, members of the community showed their support for the Brighton native. That continued on Saturday, as hundreds lined up at Innovative Field for an autograph.

“I’m really grateful, honestly,” said Clement. “The Rochester community has been so supportive, even when I was coming up in the minor leagues, even when I was in college, everyone was just so awesome.”

Before making his way into the MLB, Clement was a kid at Diamond Pro in East Rochester. News10NBC’s Ian Mills previously spoke with players and the owner of Diamond Pro about Clement’s postseason.

Ian Mills also previously spoke with Clement before the American League Championship Series. See the full interview below:
