“If I could say anything to the killer I’d just say you think it was worth it?” said Karon Odum, Mayhall’s brother. “I could probably answer, it wasn’t.”

Rochester Police Department said Mayhall was shot and killed in his car. The family is in shock and coping day by day.

Odum shared that Mayhall has a baby on the way, a child he will never meet.

“They’ll never get to meet their father because of the senseless violence in the city,” Odum said.

Mayhall was the youngest of six children and attended School No. 6 in Rochester. Odum described him as outgoing, funny, and a family man who adored his kids.

“The shooter didn’t only kill Willie, they took a piece out of each of the family’s hearts,” Odum said.

“People don’t understand when you murder someone, you don’t only kill that person, you kill a part of the family also because they are still left here to grieve,” Odum said.

Odum was hanging out when he received the call about his brother’s death, a call no one wants to get, especially during the holidays. The family immediately went to the scene of the shooting.

“It’s devastating, this family has taken a lot of losses within the last 12 months. It is tough but everyone is sticking together,” Odum said.

When asked how he is coping with the fact that the killer is still out there, Odum said, “I’m upset, I’m angry!” He added, “I know the police have a job to do and I do know things like this take time. So we are putting it in the Lord’s hands.”

The family is holding on to faith that they will get justice for Willie.

“If you do get caught and get brought to justice, now you’re spending 20-30 years away from your kids and your family. For what? For nothing! Life is a precious thing and I think a lot of people take it for granted,” Odum said.

Funeral services for Willie Mayhall are planned for next Saturday after Thanksgiving. Anyone with information on his death is urged to call 911 or Crime Stoppers for anonymous tips at 585-423-9300.
