ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The daughter of a man stabbed to death with a screwdriver on Monday morning spoke out against the alleged killer, Antonio McKnight.
Rochester police identified McKnight as the suspect in the stabbing death of Laverne Singletary at a gas station on Clifford Ave. and Portland Ave. Singletary was taken to URMC, where he died.
RPD previously arrested McKnight for stabbing a man at the RTS Transit Center in Rochester. In that case, the victim survived, but McKnight served less than a year in Attica Correction Facility for an assault charge.
Crystale Bradford, the daughter of Singletary, expressed her anger, saying, “This is a pattern for you. You deserve to be locked away and they need to throw away the key,” said Bradford.
Bradford shared her emotional reaction to the news of her father’s death. “It was like my soul left my body. If anybody know my father, they know me and him was so close. That’s my heart. He was my everything. That was my twin. Like, I love him so much. That was my daddy,” said Bradford.
Police reported that Singletary was homeless at the time of his death, but Bradford disputed this.
“He lived here,” she said, pointing towards her home. “But my father struggled with addiction my whole life.”
She says the last time she had heard from her father, he was still in the hospital.
“He left from the hospital from here in the ambulance, and I was expecting the hospital to call me, to tell me like, ‘oh, he’s been discharged. We’re going to send him in a medicab,’ like normally. But I didn’t get that call. So I did not think he would be anywhere but the hospital….He had to be released within the last 2 or 3 days…So to get that call and he was murdered at gas station blew my mind,” said Bradford.
Now, Bradford is calling for justice for her father, saying his alleged killer should “burn in the most fireiest pits of hell. Like I don’t want him to ever see the light of day.”
McKnight has been arraigned and pled not guilty to murder. He is being held without bail and is due back in court on Friday.
