Yellow Alert Weather: Tracking severe thunderstorms in Ontario and Yates counties

UPDATE: Brace for possibly severe thunderstorms on Thursday afternoon if you live in Ontario or Yates County. Other parts of the Finger Lakes area and the Rochester area are expected to see only showers. Watch News10NBC TODAY through 7 a.m. to see the timing of the rain and thunder and to stay prepared.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A weak stationary front meandering over the region, along with lake breeze boundaries will provide enough of a focus for some scattered showers and a few storms on Thursday, focusing on the afternoon during peak heating. A few storms may produce heavier rain with a fair amount of moisture in the air, but the severe threat and flooding threat remain low on Thursday. That front pushes south on Friday, bringing drier air with mostly dry weather and seasonably warm air.

The weekend will turn hotter and more humid. Saturday looks dry and hot with a mostly sunny sky and temperatures near 90. Sunday will see a better chance for some showers and storms, along with more humidity.

The more unsettled weather will continue into early next week, with some showers and storms on Monday, followed by a clearing sky and dry weather on Tuesday and Wednesday.
