ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The State of the Union is coming up, and Congresswoman Claudia Tenney is bringing a familiar face from Wayne County.
Wayne County Sheriff Robert Milby will join her in D.C. Tenney says Sheriff Milby represents the best of Upstate New York: Integrity, professionalism, and three decades of dedicated service protecting our families.
“At a time when law enforcement faces unprecedented challenges, it is important to highlight leaders who serve courageously every single day,” said Tenney in a press release. “His presence at the State of the Union represents my solidarity with law enforcement and the men and women who keep our communities safe.”
Milby, from Palmyra, started his law enforcement career in 1995 with part-time service at the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and the Lyons Police Department. Not long after, he joined the sheriff’s office full-time. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va., and a founding member of the Wayne County Opioid Task Force and the Wayne County Child Advocacy Center Advisory Board.
“Justice is strongest when every level of government stands shoulder to shoulder —protecting our citizens together and ensuring that accountability and responsibility are never optional,” said Sheriff Milby in a press release.
About the State of the Union address
The Congress website states that the State of the Union address is a message from the President to Congress where the chief executive reports on the current condition of the United States and gives policy proposals for the upcoming legislative year.
The address originates in the Constitution (Article II, Section 3, clause 1), which requires that the President “shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient.”
President Trump is expected to give the 2026 State of the Union address on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 9 p.m.
