WATCH LIVE: Bills new defensive coordinator speaks about path forward

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills’ new defensive coordinator is speaking about his vision for the team amid some major coaching changes, following the team’s loss in the playoffs.

Jim Leonhard, who played a decade in the NFL as a safety before becoming a coach, said he envisions a defense that’s “constantly evolving” throughout a game and a season.

“We’re going to be aggresive. We’re not going to be reckless. There is a right and a wrong way to attack quarterbacks in the NFL and it changes a little bit week to week based on their skillsets and you have to play to the strengths of your players,” he said.

Leonhard began his career with the Bills as an undrafted free agent in 2005 and played his second-to-last season with the Bills in 2013. He said that, during his time playing football, he’s seen how important it is for coaches to build trust with players.

“I went from team to team a lot. I went to a lot of different locker rooms. I was like, how can I earn the trust and respect of this group quickly? That was my goal going in and that will be my goal as a coach,” he said.
