Volunteers needed for New York State Winter Games in Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The New York State Winter Games are set to take place in Rochester next month, and organizers are looking for volunteers to help make the event a success.

Special Olympics New York President and CEO Stacey Hengsterman, along with local leaders and athletes, will hold a press conference at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The 2026 State Winter Games will take place in Rochester on Feb. 20-21. The event will host around 900 athletes and coaches from across New York, competing in seven sports including Alpine Skiing, Cross Country Skiing, and Figure Skating.

350 volunteers are needed for various roles such as set-up, registration, scorekeeping, and athlete escorts. No prior experience is required, and on-site training will be provided.

Special Olympics New York serves more than 48,000 athletes statewide with year-round sports training and competitions at no cost to the athletes or their families.
