WASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson said on Wednesday the text of four bills providing assistance to Ukraine, Israel and the Indo-Pacific would be filed “soon today,” with a fourth with “other measures to confront Russia, China and Iran” posted later in the day.
In a message texted to House members, Johnson said the House Rules committee also would be posting text on a separate border security bill and the House would vote on final passage on Saturday evening, providing time for debate and amendment.
More than two months after a $95 billion bill combining the aid passed the Senate with 70% support, Johnson on Monday announced his long-awaited plan for the assistance, to break it into separate bills, including one with additional provisions.
In his message on Wednesday, Johnson said the three bills “will fund America’s national security interests and allies in Israel, the Indo-Pacific, and Ukraine, including a loan structure for aid, and enhanced strategy and accountability.”
He said the fourth bill would include the REPO Act, TikTok bill and sanctions. His message did not provide details.
The REPO Act would set the stage for the confiscation of Russian assets to be handed over to Ukraine. And the U.S. House in March passed a bill that would give the short video app TikTok’s Chinese owner ByteDance about six months to divest U.S. assets for face a ban.
