Update: State Police say 37 vehicles total involved in crash on I-81 in LaFayette

LAFAYETTE, N.Y. — State Police say seven people were injured after a multi-vehicle crash on I-81 in LaFayette Thursday evening.

State Police responded to Exit 73 on I-81 at around 2:20 p.m. Thursday. They say preliminary investigations show the main crash involved about 18 vehicles, including three tractor-trailers.

According to State Police, it is estimated that a total of about 37 vehicles were involved in the crash, and the cause is believed to be weather-related.

Four people were brought to a local hospital, and three were brought to Upstate Medical Center, according to State Police. They say two people have serious injuries, but are expected to survive.

Those not hurt were brought to the LaFayette Fire Department by a Centro bus. I-81 was closed for awhile due to the crash, but has since fully reopened.
