WELLSVILLE, N.Y. — Two teenagers from Steuben County have died after a car crashed into a utility pole in Wellsville, a town in Allegany County.
The crash happened just before 2:30 a.m. on Friday on Tarantine Boulevard. New York State Police say six teens were inside the car. They say 17-year-old Derrick Smith and 18-year-old Gavin Odell died at the scene. Both were from Canisteo.
The 17-year-old driver, a 14-year-old front passenger, and two rear passengers, 15 and 16, all had minor injuries. They were taken to Jones Memorial Hospital for treatment.
According to State Police, the car left the shoulder of the road on a sharp curve, causing it to hit the pole on the driver’s side. Troopers say there were no signs of impairment. They’re still investigating.
