Trout Derby originally planned for this weekend rescheduled to later date

PITTSFORD, N.Y. — This weekend’s trout fishing derby at Powder Mills Park in Pittsford is now rescheduled.

The tournament, originally set for this Saturday, will now happen Saturday, April 18.

Organizers say this week’s rainfall has led to flooding, meaning unsafe conditions and in-accessibility for stocking and fishing.

This is a look at the conditions at the park Wednesday:

About the derby

The derby has competitions across three age brackets. The person who gets the biggest brown trout will be honored with the “Bank of America Angler Award.” The grand prize package includes the following:

  • $500 cash prize, courtesy of Bank of America
  • A four-hour fishing charter for four people, courtesy of Hat Trick Charters
  • Permanent recognition on the commemorative plaque displayed at the Fish Hatchery

How to register

It cost $5 per person to register, while children eight and under can fish for free. All registration proceeds go directly toward the continued operation and maintenance of the Fish Hatchery at Powder Mills Park.
