Storm damage: Power lines down, thousands still without power Tuesday morning

 

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — After powerful winds toppled trees, power lines, and caused outages on Monday in the region, the worst of the wind gusts are behind us. However, thousands are still without power on Tuesday morning and many neighbors are working to clear the damage.

We’re still tracking some strong winds on Tuesday, along with a chance of locally heavy lake effect snow north of Rochester and into Wayne County. You can learn more about our Yellow Alert for Tuesday and Wednesday in our latest forecast here. Here’s the latest on the wind damage:

Power lines down in Rush

A viewer, Sonya Travers, shared video of a tree falling and knocking over power lines on State Route 251 and Nelson Parkway on Monday night. The video shows the lines sparking, catching some tree limbs on fire.

Semi-truck off the road in Batavia

Blowing snow on Monday night created some poor conditions on the Thruway, leading the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office to issue a travel advisory. A semi-truck went off the road on the Thruway between Batavia and LeRoy, creating a backup.
