Second officer released from hospital after Friday’s shooting outside Chili Avenue home

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A second Rochester Police officer has been released from the hospital after Friday’s shooting outside a Chili Avenue home that left three officers with gunshot wounds.

RPD says he was released on Wednesday morning, with fellow officers and other first responders applauding as he walked on his own. The department shared this photo:

The officer was shot at the corner of Arnett Boulevard and Thurston Road, where police eventually tracked down and killed the suspect. The other two officers were shot outside the home. One officer was released on Saturday afternoon. One officer remains hospitalized, but his condition continues to improve.

On Monday, RPD released the name of the man suspected of shooting the officers as they were responding to a domestic situation. RPD says Eric Davis, 38, also threatened his victim multiple times.

According to police, Eric Davis told the victim in July that he was going to “put a bullet in her head.” That victim wasn’t injured, but another person was shot multiple times and remains hospitalized with serious injuries. That person fought back with a legally-owned handgun, firing at least six shots.

Police also say Davis had an active arrest warrant for threatening to hurt the victim in October and the victim had an order of protection against him. Officers first responded around 10:15 p.m. after getting a report of a man breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s house, possibly with a gun. Officers say they found Davis at the side of the home and he started shooting at them.

According to RPD, after the shootout, Davis ran from the scene and officers chased him to Arnett Boulevard. Police say that Davis, once again, pulled out his gun and shot an officer. That officer and a fourth officer fired shots at Davis, killing him.

RPD has not released the names of the wounded officers or the body-worn camera footage from the shooting at this time.
