RPD: Mother charged with manslaughter in connection to 16-year-old son’s death

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A mother is facing charges after Rochester Police say she hit her 16-year-old son with her car, who later died as a result of his injuries.

On Oct. 10 at around 7 a.m., police say they responded to Breck Street for a report of a person possibly hit by a car. When officers got there, they say they found Ca’hry Gibson unconscious. He was quickly brought to the hospital.

Detectives say they learned Gibson and his mother, 38-year-old Aneka Connor, got into an argument over a cellphone that day. They say Connor then left the house and got into her car.

While backing out into the street to leave, police say Gibson ran out of the house and jumped onto the car. Police say video evidence shows the car accelerating forward, and Gibson falling off the car onto the pavement.

On Nov. 7, Gibson died as a result of his injuries. After his death, his organs were donated.

Police say earlier this month, the case was handed over to the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office. On Dec. 23, a sealed indictment warrant was issued for Gibson, and she was arrested Tuesday.

Gibson was charged with manslaughter, reckless endangerment, and endangering the welfare of a child. She was remanded to the Monroe County Jail with bail set at $35,000 cash.

On Nov. 15, News10NBC’s Marsha Augustin spoke with Christopher Gibson, Ca’hry’s dad. Christopher told us Ca’hry was on a ventilator for a month with no signs of progression.
