RPD: Man charged after two teens shot while riding in stolen car on East Avenue

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A man is facing charges after Rochester Police say he shot a 17-year-old and a 19-year-old riding in a stolen car on East Avenue near Parcel 5.

Karnell Labord, 22, is charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon. Police say he’s currently on probation after a previous conviction for attempting to illegally possess a weapon.

The shooting happened on Wednesday, Aug. 27, around 8 p.m. Investigators say Labord was sitting on a bench with a group when the two teens pulled up in a stolen Nissan, which is when Labord started firing. After that, the teens drove off. News10NBC obtained exclusive video showing first responders treating the wounded teens.

After the teens got out of the car, they continued down East Avenue before collapsing. The video shows crews treating the teens near the intersection of East Avenue and Broadway, in front of the News10NBC station. Medical crews put the teens on gurneys and rushed them to Strong Memorial Hospital. Both are expected to recover.

Police arrested Labord on Sunday on Boardman Street and took him to Monroe County Jail. RPD says the shooting is still under investigation and additional charges are possible. Witnesses in the area said they heard gunfire while near the Liberty Pole.
