Rochester’s Hooked Fish Market gives away turkeys, coats ahead of Thanksgiving

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — With Thanksgiving approaching, Hooked Fish Market on Driving Park Avenue worked to ensure local families are fed and warm during the holidays with a food and coat giveaway.

“It shows that the community is in need, and we are here to help,” said Kenneth Rivers, owner of Hooked Fish Market. “So it means a lot to me that, you know, everybody came out to support what was going on today.”

Rivers, along with partners from Attest Construction, School No. 9, and WDKX, gave away dozens of turkeys, fresh produce, coats, and other winter gear – no questions asked. Rivers noted that the number of people attending has increased each year.

“It’s been up, especially this year, right here,” Rivers said. “Last year we couldn’t do it because we had an unfortunate accident at the spot. But, yeah, this year the numbers were real good, real high.”

Wafa Hanna, one of the recipients, shared how the donations help her family during the holidays.

“I got donuts, coffee, socks, clothes, you name it,” said Hanna. “Helps me during the winter with the clothes. And it helps with the kids and the grandkids. And like I say, whoever needs it.”

Organizers also offered free refreshments, including donuts, coffee, and juice, to attendees.

Rivers expressed hope to continue the tradition for years to come.
