ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester Mayor Malik Evans began his second term on Thursday, taking the oath of office at the Eastman School of Music. His son, Carter, swore him in.
Mayor Evans emphasized unity and collaboration as key themes for his new term. “The work has begun, right here in Rochester. And we will bring it to completion! We’re moving forward with a new momentum, a momentum we’ve been building over the past four years, and that will carry us through the next four. Our momentum is also a testament. It’s a testament of our collective work and toil, and we won’t let up now,” Evans said.
He encouraged residents to help their older neighbors prepare for winter, shovel sidewalks, and volunteer for charity, saying that working together is now “the Rochester way.”
Evans outlined his plans for the upcoming term, including building 100 homes on 100 vacant lots and making Rochester the first city in New York to remove all lead pipes from its water system. He stressed the importance of community cooperation to achieve these goals.
Evans acknowledged that there is still much work to be done and emphasized his commitment to continuing efforts to improve the city.
