Rochester 19th Ward: Kid-designed playground at West High Field set to open Oct. 24

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A new playground designed by kids is set to open in the 19th Ward in just a few weeks.

Mayor Malik Evans joined KABOOM! and community partners to celebrate the transformation at West High Field on Arnett Boulevard. The playground was inspired by ideas from local children and built to foster connection and belonging.

“Places to play are essential infrastructure, where children and families meet friends and neighbors and form the fabric of our community,” said Mayor Malik Evans. “I thank our partners KABOOM! and Healthi Kids, as well as all of the organizations who have supported this vision of welcoming, accessible play. When we invest in play, we invest in the future of our city.”

Partners also announced a broader commitment to build and renovate more play spaces across the city. The grand reopening of the playground is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24.

Businesses such as Davenport-Hatch Foundation, ESL Federal Credit Union, Kindling Impact Foundation, M&T Bank, Wegmans, and the William & Sheila Konar Foundation supported the project.
