ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Advocates and family members rallied outside Waterview Heights Nursing Home, calling for accountability and demanding action from the Department of Health (DOH).
News10NBC’s Deanna Dewberry has covered over a dozen stories about allegations of abuse and neglect.

News10NBC’s Erin Mahon was at the rally Monday afternoon, where she spoke with those affected by the alleged neglect and abuse.
Advocates urged the DOH to shut down the facility permanently.
“Very angry. That’s why I’m here today. Because we don’t understand how this place is not closed. We worry about how many more people’s grandmothers, mothers have to die before something happens,” one woman said.
In August, the Department of Health appointed a temporary manager for Waterview Heights. But family members reported seeing no improvements since then. Some said they felt they had no other options, which led to their relatives living at the facility.
One man at the rally turned his back to the crowd while speaking, symbolizing the daily experiences of many residents at Waterview Heights. Family members expressed little hope for improvement and preferred the home to close rather than wait for change.
People at the rally weren’t sure how long the temporary manager will be in place, but said they would rather see the home close than wait for change any longer.
