IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y. — The Rochester chapter of the protest organization 50501 held a rally called “Stop ICE Terror Rally” outside Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in Irondequoit Thursday evening.
Organizers say this protest is in response to Renee Nicole Good being shot and killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer in Minneapolis Wednesday, demanding justice for Good.

News10NBC’s Erin Mahon spoke with organizers about their plans to keep protesters calm during the event. Organizers said they have implemented two main strategies: having around a dozen volunteers act as safety marshals and keeping attendees engaged with speakers.
The 12 safety marshals will work to maintain crowd control Thursday. Organizers say these volunteers have basic knowledge of legal rights and de-escalation strategies to help maintain crowd control.
We have reached out to CBP and the Irondequoit Police Department to learn about their preparations. Irondequoit Police said they planned to have units available to assist if needed. We are still waiting to hear back from CBP.
On Thursday, dozens of protesters also gathered outside of a federal building on the edge of Minneapolis. State and local officials demanded that the immigration agents leave Minnesota, But Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said agents won’t be going anywhere.
