KENDALL, N.Y. – A helicopter crashed Wednesday night on Creek Road in Orleans County. It happened around 8:30 p.m., and News10NBC first reported the story. Thursday, News10NBC spoke with the pilot.
News10NBC’s Declan Stablow visited the scene where the experimental aircraft crashed. The pilot, Paul Berg, said told Declan he’s doing okay.

Photos from the Orleans County Sheriff’s Office showed significant damage to the helicopter, with both the main rotor and tail bent out of shape. The helicopter’s skids, which serve as landing gear, were also damaged.
Berg said he was hovering to warm up the helicopter for maintenance when one of the skids hit the ground, causing the helicopter to flip and crash.
Berg told Declan over the phone the crash ultimately came down to pilot error, and that he should’ve been more careful. The crash has been referred to the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board for further investigation.
Deputies said no fire or hazardous materials were found at the crash site, and there is no indication of foul play.
