Paul Road Elementary evacuated due to carbon monoxide leak in boiler room

GATES, N.Y. — Paul Road Elementary in the Gates Chili Central School District was evacuated on Monday due to a carbon monoxide leak, the Chili Fire Department has confirmed.

Fire officials say students were evacuated to the high school by bus out of an abundance of caution. The district says the students will have lunch there and stay there until the leak has been repaired and the building has been deemed safe.

Firefighters responded to the carbon monoxide alarm around 10:30 a.m. and found a small leak in the boiler room. Officials say they contained the leak to the boiler room and students or staff were never in any danger. News10NBC saw an RG&E truck at the scene.

Here is the full message the district posted on its website:

“Paul Road Elementary School has been evacuated due to a carbon monoxide leak. All students and staff are safe and have been transported to the Spartan Field House at Gates Chili High School, where they will be served lunch and remain until the leak has been repaired, and/or the building deemed safe. We will provide ongoing updates to families regarding this situation.”
