Over 100 youth soccer teams gather in Chili to ‘Pink The Field’ and raise $20,000 for breast cancer research

CHILI, N.Y. – 109 youth soccer teams gathered at Davis Park in Chili for the annual Pink the Field soccer tournament, aiming to raise more than $20,000 for breast cancer research.

“We have partnered with Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester. Last year, we were able to raise $18,000,” said Erin Noll, president of the Chili Soccer Association and co-organizer of the event.

Erin Noll and fellow organizer Amy Wood have held the tournament for 12 years, seeing it grow from four teams to it’s current lineup, including participants from as far as Utica.

“We had four teams. Our daughters were playing, so their team was like the initial group that played. And we just have really enjoyed watching it grow over the years from four to 109. It’s pretty awesome,” Wood said.

The cause is personal for many involved. Wood shared that her mother-in-law and sister-in-law’s mom have both battled breast cancer. Noll mentioned that her aunt fought the disease for many years.

Courtney Carlin, attending to support her nephew, reflected on her grandmother’s battle with cancer. “Several years ago, my, my Grandma Carlin, got diagnosed with breast cancer…She came up to about my shoulder, 100 pounds, just a strong little warrior. She had four different types of cancer throughout her life and she was just amazing every time,” Carlin said.

Raffle baskets created by the teams, and food vendors also contributed to the goal of $20,000.
