ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Monroe County residents can now order native trees and shrubs to plant at their properties, part of a program to support environmental protection.
The Monroe County Soil & Water Conservation District has hosted the program for 50 years. The goal is support conservation through erosion control, stormwater management, natural windbreaks, climate resilience, and giving wildlife shelter. Last year, the people ordered over 27,000 native trees and shrubs.
This year’s list includes nearly 40 different species, including hardwoods, bare-root conifers, transplants, shrubs, flowering plants, and variety packs. There are seven types of plants this year: Concolor Fir,
Northern Pecan, American Plum, Winterberry, False Indigo, Coralberry, and Black Chokeberry. People can also order accessories like bat and bluebird houses, seed mixes, and tree protection items.
The deadline to pre-order the plants is March 6. You can pick them up at the Monroe County Ecopark on April 23 or April 24 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will also be a first come, first serve overstock sale on April 25 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

All trees are young, small rooted plants rather than full grown trees. Once planted, they should start growning leaves once spring arrives.
