NYS budget deadline extended through April 7

ALBANY, N.Y. — New York’s state budget has been pushed back by another week.

Lawmakers in Albany passed the budget extension earlier Tuesday. That will maintain government funding and pay state workers through next Tuesday, April 7.

The bill takes effect immediately.

Senator Patricia Fahy is concerned the budget will be pushed back even further. Last year’s state budget was late by more than five weeks.

“It is March 31, and normally at this time I see more of a sense of urgency — and the last couple of years I don’t see that,” Fahy said. “In other words, my sense is, the intensity of negotiations have not really begun, and right now we’re still talking about a lot of policy issues — we haven’t even talked about a three-way agreement on exactly what the final number is that we all have to live with then.”
