NY Attorney General secures settlement after egg producers found to have inflated prices

NEW YORK — New York Attorney General Letitia James says the state will get over 50 million eggs and $3.3 million after a multistate investigation found major egg producers colluded to inflate prices.

The investigation, led by the New York Attorney General’s Office and the U.S. Department of Justice, found that Cal-Maine Foods, Versova Centrum, and Hickman’s Egg Ranch coordinated to raise egg prices between June 2022 and March 2025.

As part of the settlement, New York will get 53 million eggs, with nearly 5 million going directly to food banks and community groups.

The settlement also requires the companies to end illegal coordination and adopt new compliance measures.
