MOUNT MORRIS, N.Y. — A stove fire Saturday at a Mount Morris home developed into a full-blown house fire that brought multiple fire departments to battle the blaze, according to West Sparta firefighters. Firefighters were still working on the scene this morning, the Mt. Morris mayor posted.
According to a post from West Sparta firefighters, battling the fire was complicated by a roof collapse, which made it harder to get water where it needed to go. They said hot spots would almost certainly continue through Sunday.
Mt. Morris Mayor Kelly Bacon posted Sunday morning, in part, “An event like this is devastating, and we are all incredibly relieved that everyone is safe. At the same time, our thoughts are with those whose homes were affected, and as a community let’s continue to offer our support and care.”
Later in the day, she posted that people connected with the families displaced are meeting with them and finding out how best to help.
“Once there is more information as far as needs and how to donate, the information will be put out. This way the generosity and kindness of community members can be most effective and meet the needs that are most pressing,” Bacon posted. She said any updates she receives will be posted on the Mt. Morris village Facebook page and on her own mayoral Facebook page.
News10NBC is working to find out more information about the fire and will update this report.
