Monroe County’s lawmakers briefed on Dr. Mendoza’s resignation in secret meeting

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — After the sudden resignation of the Monroe County Health Commissioner, Dr. Mike Medoza, News10NBC was first to break the news about a separation agreement that prevents both Dr. Mendoza and County Executive Adam Bello from discussing the details of the departure.

That agreement enraged some members of the Monroe County Legislature who demanded more answers. On Thursday, some of those questions were answered.

The county executive’s office briefed all members of the legislature at the County Office Building Thursday afternoon about the circumstances that lead to Dr. Mendoza’s resignation, but none of them can actually talk about those details. That’s because the separation agreement includes a number of confidentiality and non-disclosure clauses, that are apparently good until “the end of the world” — as we’ve highlighted in our earlier reporting.

Jennifer Lewke, News10NBC: “What can you share with me about how you left that meeting? How do you feel after that briefing?”

Steve Brew, Monroe County Legislature Republican Leader: “Well, I do feel that a number of our questions were answered. Obviously it was a confidential meeting and we did sign an agreement that we would not divulge any of the information that was shared during that meeting. But, I think the meeting served as a very good explanation as to what were the reasons behind the separation between the county and Dr. Mendoza.:

Jennifer Lewke: “Do you feel like anything further needs to happen from here in regards to this issue

Steve Brew: “At this point, no, I don’t. I think the door is pretty much closed on this.”

While the public will likely never know what led to Dr. Mendoza’s departure, but the Conference Chair Brew wants people to know he is 100% confident there was nothing that occurred that precipitated the separation that was in anyway illegal or inappropriate.

So, as far as the County Executive’s Office is concerned, and the Republicans in the County Legislature, this matter has been put to rest.
