Monroe County K-9s fitted with protective vests through foundation donation

Local nonprofit donates K-9 protective vests to MCSO

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — K-9s from several local police departments got new bullet and stab-proof vests, giving them the same level of protection as their handlers.

Each dog was individually measured for a perfect fit. The vests were made possible through a donation by the Polisseni Foundation and made by K-9 Storm.

News10NBC spoke with a sergeant from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office about the new equipment.

“Once we get them, we get the dogs used to being able to go out there and work with the vest because it’s different,” Edwards said. “And these are very expensive but these are our partners who go out into a lot of areas looking for suspects so we want to make sure they are protected like we are.”

K-9s from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Rochester, Irondequoit, Brockport and SUNY Brockport police all got the new vests.
