ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Monroe County Clerk Jamie Romeo is testifying before the county legislature Tuesday night regarding recent changes at the DMV.
Romeo was scheduled to speak during the presentations portion of the meeting, prior to the public forum. The discussion was expected to focus on long wait times and issues with the new check-in system at the DMV.
Assistant Republican Leader Jackie Smith expressed the legislature’s desire for Romeo to clarify these issues and provide a timeline for resolution.
“We have certainly in the past offered additional funding to the clerk’s office in wanting to make sure our residents are taken care of and that has never been taken on as one of the additional funding that they would need,” Smith said. “So we certainly want to hear from her tonight on what we can do to help them.”
Smith also mentioned that the Republican caucus hoped to understand why Monroe County is facing these problems when surrounding counties have had smoother experiences.
News10NBC has been reporting on these issues for several months, highlighting the challenges residents face with long wait times and difficulty making appointments.
The meeting Tuesday started at 6 p.m.
