Meeting to be held Friday night on future of Brockport Village Court

BROCKPORT, N.Y. — The Village of Brockport is hosting a board meeting Friday night regarding the issue of Brockport’s Village court.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. at the Oliver Middle School Auditorium on Allen Street. The board will consider a resolution to abolish the village court system.

According to a report, it was found the court was losing money. The proposal to get rid of it is controversial, with many people in the community insisting the court is needed.

“They decided to invest money, create a court system. And now, why would you want to throw that away? If the court system is losing money, then fix it,” James Sauberan said.

The village report outlined three options, do nothing and accept the financial losses, share space and court costs with the Town of Sweden, or close the court and end the position of village justice.
