MCC offers free breakfast to all students enrolled in the current spring semester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Monroe Community College (MCC) is offering free breakfast to all students enrolled this spring semester. This initiative is funded through grant money and is part of MCC’s ongoing effort to address food insecurity among students.

A 2024 survey revealed that around 9% of MCC students, which translates to more than 800 individuals, are food insecure. The free breakfast program aims to provide students with a sense of belonging that a food pantry cannot offer.

“The thing about a food pantry is it does not give students a sense of belonging. They can’t eat that food with their peers,” said an official.

“This free breakfast – and if you watch as students are going through, they’re coming through in small groups.”

MCC plans to monitor the academic performance of students participating in the free breakfast program to determine if consistent access to meals is beneficial.
