ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A man was taken to the hospital for a mental health evaluation after a tense standoff with police on Park Avenue near Rowley Street.

Officers responded to a report of a suicidal man with a knife at around 9:45 p.m. last night.

Police found a man in his 30s holding an 8-inch knife and a liquor bottle. Police said he refused to drop the knife, prompting officers to use force to disarm him and take him into custody.

Our crew arrived at the scene around 10:15 p.m. and saw multiple officers shouting before a loud bang was heard. First responders were seen treating one person.

Police said the man was placed under mental health detention and taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for evaluation.
