ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A man who was injured during a shootout with Rochester Police on Sunday is charged with the attempted murder of an officer and with a deadly shooting that happened on Oscar Street hours before.
RPD Chief David Smith spoke at a news conference on Wednesday. He said Edison Estremera-Cohen, 35, shot and killed a man during an argument around 6 a.m. on Sunday. Police say that later that day, Estremera-Cohen fired at an officer who was trying to arrest him, missing the officer’s head by inches.
Estremera-Cohen is charged with second-degree murder and robbery in the death of David Vazquez. He remains hospitalized in stable condition after officers shot him three times. During the shootout, an officer had head and ear injuries. RPD said it happened because of the muzzle flash from Estremera-Cohen’s gun.
