ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A man is dead after Capt. Greg Bello from the Rochester Police Department says he was hit by a train near the Louise Slaughter Station Wednesday afternoon.
Bello says at around 11 a.m. Wednesday, they responded to the train tracks above the overpass on Joseph Avenue for a report of a person hit by a train.
After investigating, Bello says they found a freight train was heading west on the tracks when the operator says they saw a man on the tracks and wasn’t able to stop in time, hitting the man.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Bello. Police are now working with CSX investigators to look at video and other things.
There is no criminal activity suspected, Bello says. The tracks and nearby roads are closed and will reopen shortly.
This is a developing story and will be updated as we learn more. See more photos from the scene:
