Man charged with DWI in crash that killed Rochester woman in Central NY

 

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A man is charged with manslaughter and aggravated DWI in a crash that killed a Rochester woman in Central New York.

The crash happened the evening of Friday, July 11, in the Town of Sullivan. Madison County sheriff’s deputies gave an update on Friday, saying intoxicated driving was a factor.

Deputies say the driver, 21-year-old Robert Echols of Syracuse, went off the road on State Route 31 with two passengers in the car. The car hit an embankment and rolled over several times.

According to deputies, both passengers were ejected from the car. Kiara Coello, 22, of Rochester, died at the scene. Echols and other passenger were taken to the hospital to treat their injuries.

Echols was arrested on Thursday and arraigned in Madison County Court. He’s being held in jail on $5,000 bail. He’s charged with:

  • Two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide
  • One count of second-degree manslaughter
  • One count of first-degree vehicular manslaughter
  • Two counts of aggravated vehicular assault
  • Three counts of first-degree vehicular assault
  • One count of second-degree assault
  • One count of aggravated DWI
  • One count of DWAI combined influence of drugs or alcohol
  • One count of reckless driving
