ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A 22-year-old man is facing charges after Rochester Police say he shot a man in his 30s on Rochester’s northwest side.
Police responded to Dewey Avenue at about 3:47 p.m. July 14 for reports of shots fired and a person shot. Officers found the man, a city resident, suffering from gunshot wounds to his lower body.
He was taken by ambulance to Strong Hospital. His injuries were not life-threatening.
Toney Henton was later identified as the suspected shooter. Police arrested him on July 18 during a traffic stop. Police say at the time of his arrest, Henton was found with a loaded 9mm handgun, suspected cocaine, and drug paraphernalia.
Henton is charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon in connection to the shooting. He’s also facing various other weapons charges and drug charges in connection to the items found during the traffic stop.
