Man accused of injuring RPD officer who was trying to arrest him

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A man, 40, is accused of injuring a Rochester Police officer who was trying to arrest him at a home on Treyer Street off North Clinton Avenue. He’s also accused of violating an order of protection over domestic violence.

Rochester Police say Oritsegbegbemi Nanna tried to bite and hit officers on Tuesday afternoon. One officer is currently on medical leave because of upper-body injuries.

Officers responded to the home around 4:30 p.m. for a STRIVE Detail, a statewide program that aims to prevent intimate partner violence, and tried to arrest Nanna on a warrant. Police say Nanna refused orders to put his hands behind his back and got violent.

Nanna was eventually taken into custody and charged with assault and resisting arrest. He was also charged with criminal contempt, accused of violating an order of protection on Feb. 6.

Police say he was arrested on the morning of Feb. 6, charged with criminal obstruction of breathing, and released with an order of protection. According to RPD, a lieutenant saw Nanna violate the order of protection that afternoon. That’s when the lieutenant submitted paperwork for an arrest warrant and the STRIVE Detail began looking for him.

Nanna was arraigned on Wednesday morning in Rochester City Court and released again, on non-monetary conditions.
