MANHATTAN, N.Y. — Some state lawmakers from Manhattan proposed a bill requiring gun stores to display images illustrating the deadly risks of having guns at home. The lawmakers said the goal is not to stop gun sales but to encourage people to think twice before buying them.
“People need to know the risk of this product. Believe it or not a lot of people think that bringing a handgun into their homes is going to make them safer,” said Senator Erik Bottcher.
“If you are making this decision and you want to bring a firearm home you should at least be reminded of all of the people that may be impacted by this and children are the key for most of this which is a child who has access to firearm in the household devastating things can happen,” said Assemblymember Keith Powers.
One proposed image shows a child reaching for a gun inside a drawer to warn about the dangers of children accessing guns.
