News10NBC’s Declan Stablow spoke to David, who lives next to the affected home on Carlsam Drive. He said new cracks are forming on his property by the hour and he’s worried a telephone pole behind his house might not make it through the next day.
David said he and his neighbors haven’t gotten any help in terms of fixing the landslide. At one point, the state Department of Transportation came by to try to come up with some temporary solutions.
But David got a letter from the DOT saying it would be unconstitutional for them to improve private property. He also said his insurance won’t cover the damage.
David and his wife are expecting a baby and were looking forward to starting a family in the home, but now that might not be possible.
“We’re looking at probably another half inch to an inch of rain. There’s a bunch of new cracks forming on my property over here that’s on, unfortunately, the wrong side of the tree line. So we are fully expecting to lose all of the stability of the bank behind our house and quite frankly we’re terrified,” David said.
The state referred David to the Monroe County Soil & Water District for resources to help out. News10NBC reached out to the MCSWD as well as the town of Irondequoit for information about what can be done but did not hear back due to the holiday weekend.
He and his wife do have a place to go if they need to leave their home, we were told.
