Creek overflows in Livonia neighborhood
In Livonia, rising water from a nearby creek spilled into yards and basements, leaving neighbors to deal with damage and cleanup.
There was some ponding left behind Wednesday from the flood. The water level was significantly higher the day before, reaching up to calf-height from the creek, which sits at least three feet below the surrounding area.
The flooding hit Old Orchard Park in Livonia hard. Jack Brown, who has lived in the area for 50 years, said the rain came down so fast that the creek couldn’t keep up, overflowed and flooded the surrounding area and basements.
“The last two days, I’ve been pumping water and trying to get rid of the mud and everything in here. But, you know, that’s what happens when you live near water, you know?” Brown said. “But the lake levels back up where it should be, which is a good thing. But it’s caused a lot of erosion and property damage in the meantime.”
Brown’s front yard was completely covered in water. His house sits right on Conesus Lake, and he said debris from the creek is now in the lake. He hopes the town can do something about cleaning it up.
“The damage was unbelievable that we’ve never seen anything like it before. And water is pretty powerful when it comes through, you know, and, hopefully we can clean up from this mess and not have to file insurance claims to do it, too, you know?” Brown said.
Brown said he doesn’t know if he has structural damage yet. He’s still pumping out his basement.
Honeoye Creek still overflowing
News10NBC’s Declan Stablow went to Honeoye Creek in Honeoye Falls Tuesday afternoon. Although flooding wasn’t a concern at that time, the falls were still raging Tuesday, and things later took a turn.

On Wednesday, the flooding threat has ended, but Honeoye Creek is still raging and causing overflow in parts of Honeoye Falls.
Stablow went to Ontario Street where water from the creek overflowed and created what looks like a small lake. Jeff Basto, who lives nearby, said this all happened over the past couple days.
At Flaherty’s Three Flag Inn, the creek is overflowing into its parking lot. Workers said this has happened before and shouldn’t impact business.
There’s also some flooding on nearby farmland, but Stablow spoke to farmers who aren’t too worried. Basto said the overflow looks worse than it actually is.
“As long as we have power and I have a generator to run my sub pumps, we’re in good shape because the ground is saturated too, but this hasn’t flooded this much since the 90s,” Basto said. “It’s normally down three or four feet from the point where it is right now, but you can see it’s breached the bank over here in two places and flooded part of my yard.”
Milne told Stablow the water level in the creek peaked around 2:30 a.m. at seven feet. One homeowner whose backyard flooded said he actually feels lucky because it was much worse last year.
