Greece police officer fired after investigation finds false workplace injury claims

GREECE, N.Y. — A Greece police officer was fired after a town investigation found he falsely claimed a workplace injury to go on disability.

The termination letter to Mathew Bachman described his actions as “intolerable misconduct.”

Bachman faced controversy earlier this year when the town of Greece requested the district attorney investigate potential criminal charges against him. Authorities alleged he worked in property management while on disability.

This investigation followed a lawsuit from Bachman’s wife against the town. She claimed former Deputy Town Supervisor Michelle Marini placed a GPS tracker on her car after she gave authorities information for a corruption investigation into Marini.

Marini pleaded guilty in February to stealing more than $1,000 from the town.
